The First Build: one application, end to end, into production
One application, built new or rebuilt from a system you already run, taken the whole way into production on your cloud. Complete, operating and owned by you. It paves your first golden path: one approved way to build a kind of system, ready for every team after to follow.
The First Build takes one application the whole way into production: requirements, architecture, build, pipeline, deployment, and the operator that runs it. Not a slice and not a pilot. A complete, operating system on your cloud, with your standards and security controls built in from the first commit and its evidence owned by you. Forward-deployed engineers build it on FORGE with your team, inside your repositories and your cloud account. They teach the product and the discipline as they go.
The application is chosen. The sponsor is named. The next conversation is about delivery. What the First Build leaves behind is a golden path. One approved way to build a kind of system, with your standards, your security controls and your evidence already in it. Every team after starts from there, so the second application starts further along than the first, and the tenth further still. It is also how you build the services your business runs on to a SaaS provider's own standard: reliability, operations and evidence. You do not rent them, and you do not build a full custom application from scratch. FORGE supplies the design, the tooling and the operator. Your team builds the part that is specific to your business, and owns all of it. The application arrives with its own operator, built from the application's own design, so there is no stranger's system to onboard afterwards. Where the First Build replaces a system you already run, we recover what it does from the code, the documents and the running product. The old and the new then run side by side on real traffic until you are satisfied.

What's included
A complete application in production, and everything your team needs to build the next one.
- The application, live on your cloud. New build or rebuild, on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (GCP) or Oracle Cloud (OCI), whichever the workload needs. It runs under access your team grants and reviews. Delivered as infrastructure-as-code, from the provider's own modules where they fit and from modules engineered in our labs where they do not. What it costs to run is known before it is built and checked against the ceiling agreed at the start.
- Its own operator. Built from the application's own design and deployed beside it in your account. It watches the application, investigates when something goes wrong, and fixes the problems it has been proven to handle. Everything else reaches a person with the evidence already assembled. Its authority is earned, bounded by the application it belongs to, and lapses if it is not renewed. Everything it does, and everything it declines to do, is on the record. Releasing code stays with people, and anyone on call can stop the operator at once.
- The architecture and the build record. The design the software satisfies, the decisions that shaped it and who made them. A plain, versioned record of how the application was built. Enough for your team to run the application, extend it or hand it on without us.
- The runbook. What to do when a guardrail fires, a dependency fails or a model is withdrawn. Generated from the system itself, so it describes what was built.
- The golden path. The standards, the patterns and the pipeline this build proved. They stay in your repository as the starting point for every team that follows.
- The evidence. Handed over with the application. The targets it was built to, the failures it was tested against, how it recovers, and who decided what. A document a CTO can hand to a board or a regulator.
When to engage
When the application is chosen and you want it delivered whole, rather than assessed or piloted.
A board-level sponsor has selected the application and wants it in production, with its evidence, before scaling further. A system you already run has to be rebuilt without breaking anyone. The rebuild has to be shown to behave the same, not promised to. An internal team needs one complete reference implementation on its own cloud to build the next ten against. A launch or an audit date means the application has to be production-shaped and evidenced, not demoed.
What comes next
The First Build extends into Strategy to Run, the full arc across your application estate. The golden path this build paved is the starting point. Clients who do not extend still own everything the First Build delivered: the operating application, its operator, the runbook and the evidence. The work stands on its own. A Diagnostic or a Proof comes first for buyers who have not yet selected the application.
