Retail & Supply Chain

AI engineering for retail and supply chain.

Production AI across the full chain (from supplier through warehouse through shelf through customer) under one platform and one signed gate log.

Posture

Retail and supply chain are different vantage points on the same physical and economic flows. Retail-side AI optimises demand: forecasting, pricing, assortment, personalisation, customer-service automation, store operations. Supply-chain-side AI optimises flow: supplier risk, demand-supply matching, inventory positioning, route optimisation, warehouse automation, fulfilment economics. The flow connects. A demand-side mis-forecast propagates as a stockout or over-position; a supply-chain disruption becomes a retail revenue loss.

BtSavvy treats retail and supply chain as one engineering surface with two vantage points. Workloads on either side benefit from the same FORGE discipline; the integration between the two is where compounding value lives: most retail organisations carry the two dimensions on different stacks, and the seam between them is where AI value is most often left on the table.

Regulatory posture

EU AI Act: pricing, recommendation, and creditworthiness AI may fall under high-risk classifications; consumer-facing chatbots and persuasive AI fall under the transparency obligations of Article 50 (transparency for AI systems interacting with natural persons, in the enacted Regulation (EU) 2024/1689). Classification is per use case, not per vertical.

UK GDPR / EU GDPR: customer-data processing, profiling, automated decision-making, and direct marketing all engage GDPR; Article 22 automated-decision-making rights apply where AI makes decisions with legal or significant effect.

PSD2 (EU): payment-related AI (fraud detection, authentication, transaction risk scoring) sits under strong-customer-authentication and risk-based-exemption rules.

PCI DSS: applies to all entities handling payment-card data; AI that ingests, infers about, or exposes card data is in scope.

Modern Slavery Acts (UK, EU, US California, others): supply-chain AI touching supplier risk, due diligence, or transparency engages these to varying degrees per jurisdiction.

EU CSDDD: supply-chain due-diligence obligations on large EU-active companies, with supply-chain-AI implications. ISO/IEC 42001: AI Management System standard.

Which FORGE services carry the most weight

Data Foundation. Retail and supply-chain data is heterogeneous, high-volume, multi-system (POS, ERP, WMS, TMS, e-commerce, CDPs) and lineage-critical: Data Foundation typically anchors retail engagements.

Build. Application engineering: recommendation systems, dynamic pricing engines, demand-forecast platforms, route-optimisation systems, fraud-detection systems.

Governed Enablement. Retailers with material Microsoft 365 estates frequently deploy customer-service and operational AI through Microsoft Power Platform; Governed Enablement brings that low-code path under the same governance as engineer-built systems.

Run. SRE and managed operations: high-throughput, latency-sensitive, peak-traffic-aware (Black Friday, peak season), with hybrid automation and human-in-the-loop discipline.

How FORGE works in retail and supply chain

Factory concentrates on accelerators calibrated against retail and supply-chain failure modes: recommendation-system A/B testing discipline, dynamic-pricing risk-limit enforcement, demand-forecast calibration regression, route-optimisation cost-bound enforcement.

Observability includes business-outcome observability cross-correlated with model observability (recommendation click-through, basket lift, price-elasticity-realised, route-cost-realised) alongside model-internal signals.

Review includes commercial-and-regulatory review. The signed gate log carries evidence relevant to GDPR Article 22 challenges, PSD2 strong-authentication obligations, and modern-slavery due-diligence: directly queryable rather than retrospectively assembled.

Governance and Trust treats consumer-facing AI transparency, automated-decision-making fairness, and supplier-due-diligence evidence as policy-as-code.

Expert Intelligence combines frontier-model competence with retail and supply-chain domain expertise (demand modelling, customer-language fine-tuning, route optimisation, supplier-risk reasoning) with domain fine-tuning or retrieval architecture against product, supplier, and customer data products.

Use-case sketches

A customer-facing AI deployment with EU AI Act transparency evidence. A customer-service AI assistant with full transparency disclosures per Article 50, retrieval-quality and guardrail-trigger telemetry as live SRE signals, and a traceability genome recording every customer interaction at audit-grade fidelity.

A supplier-risk-monitoring AI under CSDDD due-diligence discipline. A supplier-risk system that ingests supplier data products, monitors risk signals continuously, and produces evidence packages directly consumable by CSDDD due-diligence reporting.

A demand-supply matching system across retail and supply-chain seams. A unified demand-forecasting and inventory-positioning system that crosses the organisational seam, with FORGE Data Foundation providing the data substrate and the gate log providing the audit trail across both halves.

Evaluate FORGE against a retail or supply-chain workload.

A FORGE Diagnostic takes one workload you select and engineers a working slice of it (your standards, your requirements, your security controls and governance, full CI/CD from the first commit), deployed and running, then produces a signed readiness assessment and a proposed next step.
